Desert Futures:
The desert is the ultimate site of adaption and reinvention. Flora and fauna, including humans, have evolved under changing conditions to thrive in an environment that is often seen as hostile. As global climatic conditions continue to change with temperatures on the rise, solutions developed in the desert find wider application. Traditional cultures developed ways of life best suited to the resource challenges of the desert and thinkers of all sorts have come here to imagine and reimagine. In contemporary society, alternative energy, space exploration bold artistic practices and alternative lifestyles have all sprouted from the desert floor. Joshua Treenial 2025 mines the inspiration, complexities and contradictions of our Desert Futures.
