BoxoPROJECTS is a multi-program arts initiative based in Joshua Tree, California, dedicated to exploring contemporary art at the new frontier. BoxoPROJECTS is interested in the role of art and artists in creating community and in the power of art to shape the destiny of communities. We offer facilitated artist residencies and related programming at BoxoHOUSE in Joshua Tree, as well as exhibitions, installations and performances in various locations. BoxoPROJECTS was founded by Bernard Leibov in 2009.
BoxoHOUSE is a research outpost for the investigation and development of ideas related to place, community and the environment. The residency is designed to create an inspirational clearing outside of one’s everyday context and to provide access to a welcoming community of artists, musicians, writers and independent thinkers within an area of outstanding natural beauty. Residents engage with the community, the environment and the site such that there is an exchange which leaves lasting results and continuing threads.
BoxoPROJECTS also provides the opportunity for artists to be seen and heard through exhibitions and programming. Exhibitions are created in several metropolitan areas including New York, Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Programming is presented in Joshua Tree and other locations. These events provide a welcoming space for dialog and creating community in the art sphere.
In May 2015, BoxoPROJECTS and Los Angeles based curator KJ Baysa co-launched a series of site-responsive multi-media installations and performance titled Joshua Treenial.
BoxoPROJECTS is a sponsored project of Fulcrum Arts, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of BoxoPROJECTS must be made payable to “Fulcrum Arts” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
