Nathan Hall
Rock Music

Nathan hall was an Artist in Residence at Black Rock in the spring of 2023. Rock Music is a
collection of graphic scores that evoke the plants and landscape features common to
Joshua Tree, as well as often-overlooked or underappreciated elements of the park. The
textures of individual stones, the colors of flowers at their peak, the ebb and flow of
campsites, the sounds of visitors in buildings, and even a tortoise tracking device, all make
appearances as shapes and lines on the page. Each piece is accompanied by a short
music realization to accompany the work, performed by the artist along with several by
Denver-based violinist and composer Michiko Theurer.

The exhibition ran from October 10 , 2025 until January 5, 2026.
