AARON AND CASE SHEPPARD
Holy Mountain, Starman!
Nov 9, 7pm

Case Sheppard and Aaron Sheppard give an immersive two-person performance, a spiritual tour using the stars to tour our nighttime universe with the desert as homebase. They use Maitri Space Awareness, a practice created by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founder of Naropa University, and take inspiration from Alejandro Jadorowsky’s 1973 film The Holy Mountain, in which colors and planets separate into elemental personifications. The artists’ pilgrimages from the future back into the present converge on Joshua Tree as a chimerical Sacristy (ritual reconnecting nature, gender, and human into one-of-many, many-of-one). Using light projections, video and sound, they transform space by applying a loose abstract narrative suggesting journeys through life, space, and time.
