Open House for Hermann Niebuhr, artist in residence
Saturday, May 31, 2014 2-5pm @BoxoHOUSE

Please join us at an open house for artist in residence Hermann Niebuhr and a viewing of works inspired by his time in the Joshua Tree area.

Hermann came to BoxoHOUSE to further his examination of stillness. To date, he has painted works in this series in the semi-desert region surrounding De Rust in the Western Cape, South Africa as well as in the Himalayas. During the residency, Hermann has been reading the local landscape, translating what has resonated most into a series of works on canvas, panel and paper. Connections and contrasts with his experience of the Karoo in South Africa are evident in his painterly impressions of the Mojave.

Hermann Niebuhr is a South African painter  based in Johannesburg who also maintains a studio in De Rust, Western Cape. Hermann has enjoyed many solo and group exhibitions in South Africa and Western Europe. His paintings are included in several corporate as well as private collections. Hermann holds both a BFA and an MFA from Rhodes University in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape.
